How to Modify a Crochet Cardigan Sweater Pattern

Cardigan With Wooden Buttons
My latest attempt to crochet a sweater turned out better than I expected especially since the last one I made as a gift didn't fair so well.  This time I took a free pattern and modified it a bit. I used the Free Cardigan pattern  and modified to fit a petite size person.  The free pattern download is an easy pattern to crochet using worsted weight yarn and a size J hook for the sweater and Size I Crochet hook for the trim.  It also includes wooden buttons.  To modify the sweater I used a Size H Crochet hook for the body of the sweater and a size I hook for the Trim. My pattern was crocheted using Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Color Aran which took about 2 full skeins.    To change up the pattern a bit I decided not to place buttons on the sweater this meant modifying the pattern by not crocheting buttonholes in the sweater this was fairly easy.  The more difficult part was getting the measurement right especially when it is a surprise for the person and you cannot measure them.  If you can measure the yarn council has some good instructions on how to measure to crochet a sweater.   To get started crocheting your sweater download the Free crochet sweater pattern I used here and make it your own or feel free to crochet any of the sweater patterns below...
