How to Crochet a Kitchen Hand Towel


These towels make quick gifts and sell well and craft shows. This pattern will make two crocheted hand towels. The cost to make can range from $1 to $2, depending on the price of the towel. (Since You cut the towel in half and make two hand towels out of one!) Cotton thread or yarn works the best when making a kitchen towel.

  • STEP 1: Choose a 15-inch-wide hand towel to match your theme.
  • STEP 2: Cut towel in half across the width of towel.
  • STEP 3: Fold towel into thirds. Lay towel with design down on table and fold each side to the middle.
  • STEP 4: Use a C hook. Row 1: Do 45 single crochet stitches on the cut top of towel; chain stitch three; then turn.
  • STEP 5: Use a G hook for the rest of the towel. Row 2: Double crochet in each single-crochet stitch, chain stitch six and then turn.
  • STEP 6: Row 3: Double crochet in the fifth single-crochet stitch; double crochet in next three single-crochet stitches, keeping the last loop of each stitch on hook; yarn over and pull through all four loops, forming a cluster; chain five; do four double crochets into cluster; chain five; cluster; continue this ending with a chain five and double crochet in the last single-crochet stitch; chain five; and turn.
  • STEP 7: Row 4: Double crochet in fifth single-crochet stitch; cluster; chain five; cluster ending with a chain five and a double crochet in the last single-crochet stitch; chain five; and turn.
  • STEP 8: Row 5: Repeat Row 4 until down to two clusters. Tie off.
  • STEP 9: Lay towel facing you and add a button at the center of about Row 3.

Outdoor Sidewalk Games for Kids


It's been a little too hot outside this summer to play on the driveway or sidewalk but once the weather gets a little cooler here are some fun game ideas that the kids can play...
Sidewalk-Size Tic-Tac-Toe craft
Tic-Tac-Toe - Set up your own Tic-Tac-Toe Game outside - If you use the Crayola Chalk N' Roll  it makes it fun to set up this game as well as play it... Make sure you set up a safe are for the kids to play it. The game requires the players to make a series of X's and O's in order to win across, diagonally or up and down. 
Play Checkers on the Sidewalk craft
How about a drawing a large checkerboard on a sidewalk or large area.  Use sidewalk chalk and your imagination to draw a large checkerboard.  For checkers use an object of your choice such as old plates, frisbees, or pieces from another outdoor game you may have.  View the Crayola Web site for more information...
Roll Out Hopscotch craft
Hopscotch is another fun way for kids to make something with sidewalk chalk and play a game when they are finished.  There are many different variations of Hopscotch so be sure to draw out the one your think the kids will enjoy!

As pretty as a summer garden, flowers abound on this sweet little rag doll. Delicate embroidered lawn and muslin mix with pin dots and floral sprigs. Fabric flowers at the waist and head echo the fine hand embroidery on the little apron, which is fashioned from a vintage handkerchief.

• 101⁄2 x 12 in. (26 x 30 cm) spotted fabric for body and arms
• 5 x 5 in. (12 x 12 cm) flesh-colored fabric for face and hands
• 5 x 5 in. (12 x 12 cm) contrast plain fabric for back of head
• 12 x 12 in (30 x 30 cm) floral print fabric for legs
• 8 x 13 in. (20 x 32 cm) muslin for skirt
