There are 2 steps to making wiggly crochet projects for your home. The first step is making the foundation mesh, which forms the back of the project. The Second step is adding the wiggly stitches to the foundation mesh. The wiggly stitches will form the front of the project.

This technique can be worked with any kind of yarn or thread, depending on the project type or how you prefer your project to look.

What type of projects can you make with Wiggly Crochet?

Projects for wiggly crochet can be small such as hot pads and coasters, medium such as dishcloths, or larger such as rugs. Making hot pads and coasters using wiggly crochet are great because they have a nice thickness to them.  This helps keep the warmth of the dish or the condensation of a drink away from a counter top or table.

Wiggly crochet dishcloths are flexible and rugs have a great cushion to them when under your feet. Be sure to use cotton yarn for projects such as hot pads. You can use acrylic yarn for other items such as rugs or place mats.

Wiggly crochet is a fun way to introduce new projects into your crochet!  You'll enjoy a new way to make items!

Wiggly Crochet is a 3-dimensional crochet that was popular for making hot pads in the 1950s. Wiggly Crochet begins with a base mesh made up of chain stitches in the horizontal direction and double crochet stitches in the vertical direction. The 3-D aspect is added by working 3-5 double crochets over each bar of the mesh base. These double crochets are packed so closely together that they have no choice but to wiggle away from the mesh! 32 pages.
