Free Dishcloth and Potholder Knitting Pattern


Leisure Arts has this pattern offered on their Web site for download (purchase) 

1. DISHCLOTH
Finished Size: 11" square
MATERIALS
100% Cotton Worsted Weight Yarn:
Blue - 2 ounces, (60 grams, 90 yards)
Ecru - 1/2  ounce, (20 grams, 25 yards)
Straight knitting needles, size 7 (4.50 mm) or size needed for gauge
Crochet hook, size E (3.50 mm)
GAUGE: In pattern, 4 sts = 1"
BODY
With Blue, cast on 44 sts.
Rows 1-4: Knit across.
Row 5 (Right side): Drop Blue, with Ecru, K1,  YO (Fig.  1), K2 tog (Fig.  2); repeat from  across to last st, K1.
Row 6: Knit across; drop Ecru.
Rows 7-10: With Blue, knit across.
Rows 11-76: Repeat Rows 5-10, 11 times.
Cut Ecru; bind off all sts leaving remaining loop on needle; do not cut yarn.
EDGING
With right side facing, slip loop onto crochet hook, ch  1 (see Crochet Stitches), 3  sc in same st, sc evenly around working 3  sc in each corner; join with slip  st to first sc, finish  off.


2. POT HOLDER
Finished Size: 8"w x 7"h
MATERIALS
100% Cotton Worsted Weight Yarn:
Blue - 11/4  ounces, (35 grams, 60 yards)
Ecru - 1/2 ounce, (20 grams, 25 yards)
Straight knitting needles, size 7 (4.50 mm) or size needed for gauge
Crochet hook, size E (3.50 mm)
GAUGE: In pattern, 4 sts = 1"
BODY (Make 2)
With Blue, cast on 32 sts.
Row 1 (Right side): Knit across.
Row 2: Purl across.
Rows 3 and 4: Repeat Rows 1 and 2; at end of Row  4, drop Blue.
Rows 5 and 6: With Ecru, knit across.
Row 7: Drop Ecru, with Blue, K2,  with yarn in back, slip 1 as if to purl, K2: repeat from  across.
Row 8: K2,   with yarn in front, slip 1 as if to purl, K2; repeat from  across; drop Blue.
Rows 9 and 10: With Ecru, knit across.
Row 11: Drop Ecru, with Blue, knit across.
Rows 12-44: Repeat Rows 2-11, 3 times; then repeat Rows  2‑4 once more.
Bind off all sts loosely.
JOINING
With wrong sides together, working through both pieces, and using crochet hook, join Blue with slip  st in any corner (see Crochet Stitches); ch  1, 3  sc in same st, sc evenly around working 3  sc in each corner; join with slip st to first sc; ch  15, join with slip  st to form a ring, turn; slip  st in each ch around; finish  off.

YARN OVER
Bring the yarn forward between the needles, then back over the top of the right hand needle, so that it is now in position to knit the next stitch (Fig. 1).

KNIT 2 TOGETHER (abbreviated K2 tog)
Insert the right needle into the front of the first two stitches on the left needle as if to knit (Fig.  2), thenknit them together.

CROCHET STITCHES

CHAIN (abbreviated ch)
Bring the yarn over the hook from back to front and draw through loop on hook (Fig. 3).

SLIP STITCH (abbreviated slip st)
Insert hook in stitch indicated, YO and draw through stitch and loop on hook (Fig. 4).

SINGLE CROCHET (abbreviated sc)
Insert hook in stitch or space indicated, YO and pull up a loop, YO and draw through both loops on hook(Fig. 5).
