Free Vintage Crochet Pattern Drawstring Blouse



This Drawstring Blouse is a vintage pattern.
Originally published in The Famous Puritan Book III by the American Thread Company
Materials and sizes will vary due to the age of the pattern.

Sizes 10-12-14-16
Materials Required:
AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY The Famous "PURITAN" MERCERIZED CROCHET COTTON, Article 40.
3 (3, 4, 4) Balls White
1 (1, 2, 2) balls Cinnamon
2 (2, 2, 2) balls Turquoise
1 (1, 1, 1) ball Black
Steel crochet hook No. 6 or No. 7
2 1/2 yds. braided cording
7 buttons
Gauge: 3 patterns = 1 inch 6 rows = 1 inch
Directions are given for size 10. Sizes 12, 14 and 16 are given in parentheses.
Back: With White chain (ch) 150 (159, 168, 177), single crochet (sc) in 2nd stitch (st) from hook, double crochet (dc) in next st of ch, * ch 1, skip 1 st of ch, sc in next st, dc in next st, repeat from * across row, ch 1, turn.
2nd Row: 1 sc, 1 dc in same space, * ch 1, skip next sc and next ch 1 space, 1 sc, 1 dc in next dc (pattern), repeat from * across row, ch 1, turn.
Repeat the 2nd row 6 times, drop White, turn.

9th Row: Attach Black, sc in same space, sc in next sc, * ch 1, skip next ch 1 space and next dc, 2 sc in next sc, repeat from * across row, cut Black, do not turn.
10th Row: Attach Cinnamon at opposite end, sc in same space, dc in next st, * ch 1, skip next ch 1 space and next sc, 1 sc, 1 dc in next sc, repeat from * across row, ch 1, turn.
Work 3 rows even in pattern same as 2nd row, cut thread.
Pick up White and work 2 rows even in pattern, drop White, turn.
16th Row: Attach Black and work same as 9th row.
17th Row: Pick up White at opposite end, sc in same space, dc in next st, * ch 1, skip next ch 1 space and next sc, 1 sc, 1 dc in next sc, repeat from * across row, ch 1, turn.
Work l row even in pattern, ch 1, turn.
19th Row: Working in pattern, increase 1 pattern at beginning and end of row (to increase: 1 sc, 1 dc in 1st st, ch 1, 1 sc, 1 dc in next st), ch 1, turn.
Work 3 rows even in pattern, drop White, turn.
Next Row: Attach Turquoise and work 6 rows even in pattern, ch 1 to turn each row, cut thread at end of last row.
Next Row: Pick up White and work 8 rows even in pattern, ch 1 to turn each row.
Repeat from 9th row for color scheme working all rows even until back measures 10 (l0 1/2, l0 1/2, 11) inches from beginning.
Next Row: Start armholes: Keeping color scheme and pattern as established, slip stitch (sl st) to the dc of 3rd pattern. 1 sc, 1 dc in same space, work in pattern to within 2 patterns at opposite end, ch 1, turn.

Next Row: Sl st across one pattern, work in pattern to within last pattern at opposite end, turn. Work even in color scheme and pattern until armholes measure 7 1/2 (7 1/2, 7 3/4, 7 3/4) inches from 1st decreasing point.
Next Row: Shoulders: Sl st across 3 (3, 4, 4) patterns, work in pattern to within last 3 (3, 4, 4) patterns, turn.
Next Row: Sl st across 3 (4, 4, 4) patterns, work in pattern to within last 3 (4, 4, 4) patterns, turn.
Next Row: Sl st across 4 (4, 4, 5) patterns, work in pattern to within last 4 (4, 4, 5) patterns, cut thread.
Left Front: With White ch 90 (96, 102, 108), work same as back for 18 rows.
Next Row: Increase 1 pattern at beginning of row (side edge), then work even in color scheme and pattern until Front measures same as Back to armhole ending at armhole side.
Next Row: Keeping color scheme as established, sl st to dc of 3rd pattern, work in pattern across row.
Next Row: Decrease 1 pattern at end of row.
Work even in color scheme and pattern until armhole measures 5 (5, 5 1/4, 5 1/2) inches from 1st decreasing point ending at armhole side.
Next Row: Work to within last 3 (3, 4, 4) patterns, sl st in the dc of next pattern, ch 2, turn.
Next Row: Skip the sl st, then sl st over next 2 patterns, work in pattern to end of row, ch 1, turn.
Next Row: Decrease 2 patterns at neck edge. Decrease 1 pattern at neck edge every row until 10 (11, 12, 13) patterns remain. Work even until armhole measures same as back armholes ending at neck edge.
Next Row: Shoulders: work to within last 3 (3, 4, 4) patterns, ch 1, turn.
Next Row: Sl st across 3 (4, 4, 4) patterns, work 4 (4, 4, 5) patterns, cut thread.
Place a marker for 7 buttons evenly spaced placing 1st marker on 6th row from lower edge.
Right Front: Work same as Left Front reversing the shaping and decreases and working buttonholes to match markers.
Buttonholes: Starting at front edge work 2 patterns, ch 3, skip 1 pattern, work to end of row.
On next row work a pattern in the ch 3 of buttonhole.
Finishing: Block each section. Sew shoulder and side seams.
With White crochet a row of sc up front, around neck and down opposite front, cut thread. Finish armholes in same manner.
Cord: With White ch 3, join to form a ring, ch 1 and work 1 sc in each st of ch.

Next Row: Without joining rows work 1 sc in each sc working through the outside loop of each st until cord measures about 50 inches or length desired, cut thread.
Sew ribbon on inside of blouse at lower edge for casing lace cord through casing and tie in front. Sew buttons in position. Sew braided cording up front, around neck and down opposite front. Sew around each armhole in same manner.
