Free Knitting Pattern - Striped Baby Blanket Knitting Pattern



Craft Project: Striped Baby Blanket

Wide stockinette bands of pink and brown are framed in seed stitch, making this afghan a real room-brightener.
Knitted measurements:
Approx 291/2" x 37"/75cm x 94cm
Materials:
• 4 31/2oz/100g balls (each approx 220yd/201m) of Cascade Yarns 220 Superwash (superwash wool) in #818 mocha (MC)
• 2 balls in #840 iris (CC)
• Size 6 (4mm) circular needle, 36"/91cm length or size to obtain gauge
Seed stitch:
(over an even number of sts)
Row 1: (RS) *K1, p1; rep from * to end.
Row 2: K the purl sts and p the knit sts.
Rep row 2 for seed st.
Stripe pattern:
Working in St st (knit on RS, purl on WS), *work 16 rows CC, 16 rows MC; rep from * (32 rows) for stripe pat.
Blanket:
With CC, cast on 140 sts. Work in stripe pat, until 15 stripes have been completed, ending with a CC stripe. Bind off using CC.

Gauge:
22 sts and 29 rows to 4"/10cm over St st using size 6 (4mm) circular needle. Take time to check gauge.
Side Borders:
With RS facing and MC, pick up and k 170 sts evenly along one side edge. Next row (WS) Knit. Work in seed st for 2"/5cm, end with a WS row. Bind off in seed st. Rep for opposite side edge.
Top Border:
With RS facing and MC, pick up and k 11 sts along edge of side border, 140 sts along bound-off edge of blanket, then 11 sts along edge of side border —-162 sts. Next row (WS) Knit. Work in seed st for 2"/5cm, end with a WS row. Bind off in seed st.
Bottom Border:
Work as for top border, picking up 140 sts along cast-on edge of blanket.
Finishing:
Block piece lightly to measurements.
