Crochet a Pair of Basketweave Fingerless Gloves or Mittens
Here is an idea to start making this year as gifts. These wonderful gloves or mitts have a unique design to crochet plus they can easily be made in your favorite yarn colors. The pattern suggests using wool yarn but any yarn that works well for mittens or gloves will be okay to use.
Generous double-treble post stitches create an airy yet warm woven fabric. Careful seaming along the thumb side connects the cables. Extend the wearing by flipping them inside out for a completely different look.

8th row: Repeat 7th row.
9th row: Shell between first 2 shells, work in pattern across, ending with shell between last shell and half shell, dc in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn.
Next 8 rows: Repeat 6th through 9th rows twice-10 (11, 12) shells plus 2 dc remain. work even in pattern until there are 6 rows less than on Back before armhole shaping, ending at front edge; omit turning chain.
Neck Shaping: 1st row: Sl st in first 4 dc, sl st between shells, ch 3, shell between next 2 shells, work in pattern across. Ch 3, turn.
2nd row: Work in pattern to last shell, dc in top of ch-3. Ch 3, turn.
3rd and 4th rows: Work in pattern across.
5th row: Shell between first 2 shells, work in pattern across. Ch 3 turn.
6th row: Repeat 2nd row. Ch 3, turn.
Armhole and Neck Shapings: 1st row: Work in pattern to within last 2 shells, dc between last 2 shells. Ch 3, turn.
2nd row: Shell between first 2 shells, work in pattern across. Ch 3, turn.
3rd row: Shell between first 2 shells, work in pattern across to within last shell, dc in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn.
4th row: Repeat 3rd row.
For Medium and Large Sizes Only: Next 4 rows: Repeat 3rd through 6th rows of Neck Shaping.
For All Sizes: Work even until length is same as Back. Break off and fasten.

Block measurements. Sew side and shoulder seams.
Lace Edging: With wrong side facing and working along opposite side of starting chains, make 161 (177, 185) sc evenly spaced along entire lower edge. Ch 3, turn. Now work lace pattern as follows:
1st row: 2 dc in first sc, * ch 1, skip next 3 sc, (yarn over, draw up a loop in next sc to height of work) twice; yarn over and draw through all loops on hook - cluster made; ch 3, make another cluster in same sc, ch 1, skip next 2 sc, 6 dc in next sc. Repeat from * across, ending with 3 dc in last sc instead of 6 dc. Ch 3, turn.
2nd row: Skip first dc, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 1, in next ch-3 sp make cluster, ch 3 and cluster; * ch 1, 2 dc in next dc, dc in next 4 dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 1, in next ch-3 sp make cluster, ch 3 and cluster. Repeat from * across to within last 3 dc, ch 1, 2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc, dc in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn.
3rd row: Skip first 2 dc, dc in next dc, skip next dc, ch 1, in next ch-3 sp make cluster, ch 3 and cluster; * ch 1, dc in next dc, skip next dc, dc in next 4 dc, skip next dc, dc in next dc, ch 1, in next ch-3 sp make cluster, ch 3 and cluster. Repeat from * across to within last 4 dc, ch 1, skip next dc, dc in next dc, skip next dc, dc in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn.
4th row: Skip first dc, dc in next dc, ch 1, in next ch-3 sp make cluster and (ch 3, cluster) 3 times; * ch 1, dc in next dc, skip next dc, dc in next 2 dc, skip next dc, dc in next dc, ch 1, in next ch-3 sp make cluster and (ch 3, cluster) 3 times. Repeat from * across, ending with ch 1, dc in next dc, dc in top of turning chain. Ch 5, turn.
5th row: * (In next ch-3 sp make cluster, ch 3 and cluster, ch 2) 3 times; dc in next dc, skip next dc, dc in next 2 dc, ch 2. Repeat from * across, ending with dc in top of turning chain. Ch 4, turn.
6th row: Cluster in next ch-3 sp, ch 3, sl st in 3rd ch from hook - picot made; in each of next 3 sps make (cluster, picot) twice; cluster in next ch-3 sp, picot; skip next dc, dc in next dc, picot, skip next dc and following sp. Repeat from * across, ending with dc in 3rd ch of turning chain. Break off and fasten.
Edging: 1st row: With right side facing and being careful to keep work flat, sc evenly along right front, neck and left front edges, make 3 sc in same place at each corner of neck edge. Ch 1, turn. With pins, mark the position of 7 buttonholes evenly spaced on Right Front edge, having the first pin in line with first row of shells at lower edge and the last pin in line with last row before neck shaping.
2nd row: Making 3 sc in center sc of each 3-sc group, * sc in each sc to next pin, ch 2, skip next 2 sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * across, sc in each remaining sc. Ch 1, turn.
3rd row: Making 2 sc in center sc of each 3-sc group, sc in each sc and in each ch across. Break off and fasten.
Armhole Edging: 1st and 2nd rnds: With right side facing, sc evenly around entire armhole edge. Join with sl st to first sc. Break off and fasten. Sew on buttons.
